Fulham set to sign Matthew Targett on a six month loan, but is Ryan Sessegnon going the other way?

Fulham are set to secure the signature of Matthew Targett on a six-month loan deal later this week.

The young left-back will join Fulham for the rest of the season and he fills one of the three key positions that Fulham wanted to strengthen this window. This arrival gets rid of any chance that Portuguese left back Rafa Soares gets into the Fulham side after making only two appearances this season.

As a left-back Targett is solid both defensively and going forward with crossing being one of his best assets. Targett has struggled to get into the Southampton team recently due to Ryan Bertrand being one of the most consistent players in the squad. Targett coming to Fulham will be a great opportunity to get some minutes under his belt.

The question a lot of Fulham fans will be asking is what does this mean for Ryan Sessegnon. It is no secret that Southampton have been admirers of Fulhams hottest property and it was rumoured earlier in the window that Southampton would offer a cash + Targett deal in order to land the player. Southampton have recently come into a huge windfall of £75 million after the sale of Virgil Van Dijk and have money to throw at Ryan Sessegnon. Southampton are one of the most famed clubs in the country for bringing through young talent so it could be the perfect destination for the 17-year-old. It is thought that a fee around £30 million would be enough to pry the youngster to the south coast.

If Sessegnon was to stay however the signing of Targett would be a fantastic acquisition as it would allow the youngster to play on the left wing more often. Something the fans have been crying out for all season.
