It was no secret that Fulham were pursuing Dwight Gayle over the summer but the deal fell through after Newcastle were unable to sign a replacement in time.
However with Newcastle now looking to sign Danny Ings from Liverpool the Gayle to Fulham deal could be resurrected. A record fee of £15 million was offered in the summer and it is thought that another bid of £15 million would be enough.
Slavisa Jokanovic confirmed this week that he expects three incomings in this window including a striker. It seems likely that Gayle could be that man. Fulham fans have been crying out for a proven Championship goalscorer ever since the departure of Ross McCormack and Gayle would certainly fit that billing. Scoring 23 in 32 appearances in The Championship last time out. A move back to London suits Gayle as well as his family still live there from his time at Crystal Palace.
Does the deal look likely to happen? It all hinges on Danny Ings signing for Newcastle. He is currently 8/15 on SkyBet to make the move to St James’ Park and multiple news outlets have linked him with a move there.
