Who should Fulham sign in the January transfer window?

With the new year just around the corner, that means that the transfer window will be open once again. Fulham is a team that are on the verge of the playoffs this season and would like to strengthen to push on and claim a top 6 place. Here are the players I believe we should look into signing.

A new striker: Fulham desperately needs to reinforce up top as we currently only have Woodrow and Smith as senior strikers signed on a permanent basis. With Chris Martin only being on loan. Jordan Rhodes would be an excellent signing in my opinion. Frozen out of the Middlesbrough squad and a proven goalscorer at this level Rhodes is available and a class player. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will be the only team in for Rhodes this window with a lot of interest lower down the table with QPR and Aston Villa apparently both interested.

If Rhodes did go to Villa there has been murmurs of a loan return of Ross McCormack. As much as McCormack did a great job for us in the past, pretty much keeping us up single-handedly for two seasons. I would not welcome his return as the squad has moved on and it is a completely different system with a lot more pace in it which would not suit McCormack in my opinion.

Lots of Fulham fans who I speak to think that Nakhi Wells could be a great signing. The only issue with this transfer would be how likely we are to be able to pull it off as Wells would command a high transfer fee, as well as having loftier ambitions with Premier League clubs continuously being linked. With Huddersfield also being in the playoff scrap, I don’t think we would be able to pull off this transfer.

A new contract for Slavisa Jokanovic: Jokanovic has transformed Fulham from relegation candidates to promotion contenders and we can’t let his contract run down. Jokanovic has been our best manager since Mark Hughes or Roy Hodgson in my opinion. He has got us playing amazing football and we are back to getting results away from home which is something that was so rare at Fulham we had multiple chants for how few and far between away wins were.

Fortunately, it looks like Khan is trying to please Jokanovic as one of his main complaints about not being in control of transfers was addressed last week as Mike Rigg was sacked. Whether or not we are going to replace Rigg with someone else or let Jokanovic take over on the transfer front is still up for debate. But the removal of Mike Rigg is something FFC fans have been clamoring for for years and now it has happened.

Tomas Kalas Permanently: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Kalas is the best centre back we have had since Brede Hangeland. Kalas should be signed by any means necessary, he has been a star performer for us this season and it doesn’t look likely that he will ever break into the Chelsea side. Of course, this is a transfer that could wait until the summer but I would much rather get it done now due to that fact that if we do get to the playoffs a lot more eyes will be on Kalas and if he puts in good performances bigger clubs will become interested and his transfer value will rise.

As for his teammate Lucas Piazon, his loan expires next month and I think we should extend it at least for another month. Due to the fact we are losing Floyd Ayite and Neeskens Kebano to the African Cup Of Nations so we will need to have replacements lined up and Piazon will be able to fit that role.

A New GoalkeeperThis one is not a necessity as we do have Bettinelli, however, I would like to seen David Button replaced as he is not putting in the best performances as of late. He cost us two points again against Derby with his hesitancy to come and collect a set piece. Personally, I wouldn’t mind us looking to look to loan a Premier League second choice keeper such as; Vito Mannone, Brad Guzan or an ambitious target would be Michel Vorm.
